Martin Campbell’s 1998 Zorro reboot, “The Mask of Zorro”, starring Anthony Hopkins and Antonio Banderas, was pretty damn good in my opinion. It launched Banderas to the stardom he has today, set his character Puss in Boot’s personality up for the “Shrek” franchise, for which he got his own spin-off, and spawned a sequel, “The Legend of Zorro”, which wasn’t as good, but I still thought it was decent. I always wanted a Zorro 3, to complete Campbell’s trilogy. But ‘Legend’ didn’t do too well at the box-office, so the franchise stopped. But considering the seven-year gap between ‘Mask’ and ‘Legend’, I remained optimistic. That was untill back in the middle of last year when 20th Century Fox announced they were gonna reboot the series into a modern setting in a film called “Zorro Reborn”. Well, the reboot is happening, but it’s not modern. Instead, it’ll be a post-apocalyptic future! How the hell do you put Zorro into that? Well, they found a way somehow and now, casting has begun. Gael Garcia Bernal has been cast as the titular spanish swashbuckler, and apparantly, Zorro will set out on a quest of revenge (how original). I have little hopes for this film. Mind you, it could be incredible, but I’m not holding my breath.
